Turkson promises to discipline Kiwitt tonight
Lightweight boxer, Samuel Turkson, will move up in weight to fight Liberia’s Freddy Kiwitt tonight in what he describes as the “most important bout” of his career as the two battle for the vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight belt at the Old Kingsway building in Accra.
Turkson, who weighed 144 pounds at The Gym in Accra yesterday, called the bluff of his opponent and promised to discipline him tonight and win the prestigious belt for the nation.

“I cannot sit for someone to enter the country and win this title. I am more than ready for this particular bout. I will discipline him to become the ABU champion. I have always trained, looking for an opportunity like this so I cannot let it pass by me,” Turkson told the Daily Graphic confidently.
Turkson, who has 15 wins, with 11 knockouts and five losses, further stated that the reason why he regarded the bout as the most important in his career was to keep his eight-fight unbeaten run secure.
In a sharp response, Kiwitt, who weighed 147 pounds, said: “I am very ready. I have trained very well. I have not seen my opponent fight before but I believe the most important thing is to be prepared for anyone and surely I will be victorious,” the orthodox boxer said.
Kiwitt began his career in November 2013 and has recorded eight knockouts out of 15 wins and two losses, He last fought in February 2019 at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, in the United Kingdom, and defeated Paddy Gallagher by a majority decision.
Referee Michael Neequaye from Ghana will officiate the main bout, with Sylvain Adole from Togo and Adesanya Olesegun from Nigeria as the judges.
The much-anticipated bill will also witness World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Global lightweight title holder, Emmanuel “Gameboy “Tagoe, slugging it out with Ishmeal Aryeetey in a lightweight contest.
Other bouts on the bill include 17 year-old Alfred Lamptey’s professional fight against Saidu Amadu in a featherweight contest.
In another lightweight contest, John Dugu will battle Aminadu Adawale from Nigeria.
