Sukura Loso Park to get artificial pitch

Sukura, a suburb in the Ablekuma Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, is the next community after Kotobabi, Dzorwulu and Nungua to benefit from an artificial football pitch in their communities.

Last Saturday, a sod-cutting ceremony was carried out by the Director of Operations at the Presidency, Lord Commey, who traces his root from the area to herald the commencement of the project.

The project is an initiative of Mr Commey and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Nartey, and the construction works is being carried out by Wembley Sports Construction Limited, experts in the constructing of artificial football pitches.

Addressing a short but impressive ceremony at Loso Park, the site for the construction of the modern sports facility at Sukura last Saturday, Mr Nartey announced that a similar facelift would be given to the famous Town Council Line park for which a similar sod-cutting would be done tomorrow.

Aside from the Loso and Town Council Line parks, Mr Nartey said, the Mambruk park would also receive similar attention.

“This project which would ensure the total transformation of Loso park would also include a library to change the phase of the constituency in terms of sports for the youth,” Mr Nartey added.

A representative of the contractors, Nana Antwi, for his part noted that sports, and for that matter football, was changing very fast; hence, the need to invest more in sports facilities, which included the migration from the natural grass to artificial grass.

Baring any form of hitches, Nana Antwi said the Loso Park project would be completed in three months, adding that every community and constituency in the country needed a similar sports facility.

He further called on all municipal, metropolitan and district chief executives (MMDCEs) to transform the sports industry in all communities with the new technology by the year 2020 as part of efforts to improve sports and positively engage the youth to help eliminate social vices.
