A total of hundred youth, including 25 females, were the key beneficiaries of the football talent hunting programme which was organised at the Lord’s Wembley Park at Sukura in Accra.

German and Ghanaian coaches

Experts from Germany, led by Birger Nass, and some Ghanaian coaches took the youth through key basics of the sport designed to nurture and develop their potential more proficiently.

The other coaches are two-time Women's World Cup winner, Renate Lingor, Black Maidens coach, Evans Adotey, National U-15 goalkeeper’s coach Isaac Amoako and Eric Ofori Antwi.

According to the Head of Marketing at StarTimes Ghana, Mrs Akofa Banson, the programme is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme targeted at developing Ghanaian youth football to the elite level.

"We are doing this as CSR project to project youth football in Ghana. That is why we are partnering the Bundesliga to run this programme so that we can have some elite talents for the various national teams,” she stated.

GES, GFA collaboration

According to Mrs Banson, the participants (whose ages ranged between 13 and 17 years) were selected by the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) across the country.

She said the programme, which started last Saturday, would end on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

In an interview, Coach Nass said the participants would be exposed to various tactics and techniques akin to that of Germany with the view to nurturing and developing their potential more meaningfully.

"Over the next five days, there will be training sessions twice a day on individual and basic techniques just as we have been doing in Germany,” he added.
