Stars ready for Burkina Faso - Konadu

The assistant coach of Black Stars B, Maxwell Konadu, has given an assurance that the team would secure a resounding victory on Sunday to book a place in the 2018 Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) by beating their Burkinabe counterparts in the return leg qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The Stars go into the match with an away goal’s advantage after holding Burkina Faso 2-2 in the first leg in Ouagadougou last Sunday.

Coach Konadu told the media after the team’s training yesterday afternoon that the playing body was aware of the Herculean task ahead of them in the final qualifier in order to secure their place at the 2018 CHAN in Kenya.

“We all know what is ahead of us but we will do what we can to make sure that victory is ours come Sunday,” said an optimistic Konadu.

Touching on the possible threats posed by their opponents, he noted that the Stars’ technical handlers had identified some very skilful players, particularly a Burkinabe who features for Ghana’s Premier League side Inter Allies and, therefore, knew the Ghanaian terrain. However, he promised the Stars would devise a strategy to contain them on Sunday.

“We will see how we put breaks on him to make sure that he does not have room to cause any problem.”

Coach Konadu expressed delight that the team’s handlers had almost the full complement of the players in camp except defender Awal Mohammed who was unwell after he played for Kotoko against Division One side, Nea Salamina in the MTN FA Cup quarter-final clash in Kumasi last Wednesday.

He gave an assurance that the team doctors were working on the player to make him available for Sunday’s game. “When he is okay we will go with him,” he added.
