Rescue mission: Coach Maxwell Konadu joins Legon Cities

Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities have turned former Asante Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu to help rescue the club's league campaign.

The Royals announced on Sunday the recruitment of Konadu to strengthen the technical team until the end of the current league season.

"Management has with immediate effect taken the decision to augment the technical set-up of the club. Maxwell Konadu has been hired to beef up the team until the 20/21 football season," the statement said.

Two months ago Konadu, who is currently the head coach of the national under-17 team, Black Starlets, was linked with a move to the Royals but was quick to deny media reports of any such move.

Bashir Hayford's fate at the club remains unclear

It is unclear the fate of Legon Cities head coach, Bashir Hayford, who has been in charge of the big-spending club since November 25, 2020 when he replaced German-Bosnian coach, Goran Barjaktarevic, who was sacked a few days after the club lost 0-3 to Great Olympics in the second week fixture.

Hayford, a former coach of Kotoko and Ashanti Gold, has supervised the inconsistent form of Legon Cities who have won just 10 matches in 32 matches and have gone without a win in their last four matches.

Currently in 13th position on the league log and just two points above the relegation zone, Legon Cities play away to Elmina Sharks on July 11 in the penultimate league fixture before hosting Techiman Eleven Wonders in Accra on July 18.
