Presidential C’ttee backs old Stars

A member of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry investigating Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Moses Foh Amoaning, has appealed to Minister of State at the Presidency, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah to  facilitate the payment of the GH¢1.7m President John Dramani Mahama promised the old Black Stars.

The appeal was made when Mr Ankrah who was the former Minister of Youth and Sports took his turn at the commission.

At a Presidential ball organised for the Black Stars before their departure to Brazil for the World Cup, President Mahama, promised to make available GH¢1.7 million to the old generation of Black Stars who won the Africa Cup of Nations some decades ago, for which the nation has reneged on its promise to reward them.

Mr Foh-Amoaning contended that those players carried the flag of the country high in their time and yet some of them had been living in abject poverty and appealed to the minister to help make good the President’s promise to them.

Mr Foh-Amoaning said it was unfortunate when players who  won four Africa Nations Cups for the nation had not been recognised yet money could be flown to Brazil for players who had won nothing for the country.

Former players such as Wilberforce Mfum, Rev Osei Kofi and Willie Klutse  were among a few other former Black Stars players who were at the Commission’s sitting to support the minister.
