PLB postpones Kotoko-Hearts match

The Premier League Board (PLB), organisers of the Ghana Premier League, has postponed the Match Day 23 fixture between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, which was scheduled for Sunday, July 16, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The decision, according to the organisers, followed the tragic accident involving the Asante Kotoko team last Wednesday on their way to Kumasi after their midweek encounter against Inter Allies in Accra.

A statement signed by Mr Ashford Tettey-Oku, PLB chairman read: “The PLB is deeply saddened by the development, and expresses its deepest commiseration to Asante Kotoko. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family of Mr Thomas Asare, the departed Equipment Manager, and we pray to the Almighty God to heal the injured players and officials.”

“The PLB would appreciate it if all clubs would observe a minutes silence at all league centres in honour of the departed official of Kotoko before the commencement of matches on Sunday.”

“Finally, the PLB commends all those who assisted Kotoko during the difficult moment, as well as Okwawu United, who made their bus available to transport injured Kotoko players to Kumasi.” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, the PLB has sent a delegation to visit Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Kumasi to express the board's support in this difficult time.
