PaySwitch Achimota Match Play tees off

The Achimota Golf Club witnessed the return of the Club Match Play on May Day with the launch of the PaySwitch Achimota Club Match Play 2018.

The event attracted 64 members of the club for the singles tournament sponsored by PaySwitch Limited.

The first round saw 32 golfers of Achimota Golf Club qualifying for the second round between May 5 and 18.

The CEO of PaySwitch, Kojo Choi, who is an executive on the Achimota Golf Club Council and sponsor of the Matchplay series, was knocked out on the 18th hole in the first round by Mr Alistair Rushton of the British High Commission.

Other notable first-round casualties were the vice-captain, Mr Sjoerd Grueter. The Past Captain, Dr Frank Adu - MD of Cal Bank - who was in the final of the 2016 edition. Also knocked out in the first round, was the 2016 Champion and Past Captain Mr René Gamali Kwame.

The club’s indefatigable Competition Secretary, Mr George Y. Amoah, also fell to Mr Kwaku Ofosuhene, while Club captain, Mr Mark Cofie Jnr, triumphed over Mr Henry Kerali, the World Bank Country Director for Ghana, to advance to the next round.

The club president, Mr Eddie Addo, also made light work of Mr Ofori Boateng.

Mr Yaw Yeboah was given a walkover by Mr Isaac Asante, but at the starting hole, Mr Yeboah was disappointed that he could not have a chance to settle an old score with his golfing buddy, Mr Asante.
