Oly oldies beat Hearts 2-0

Accra Great Olympics Oldies beat their Hearts of Oak counterparts 2-0 to lift the McDan Peace Challenge Cup at the McDan Park at La in Accra last Saturday.

Former Olympics striker, Godwin Attram, converted a spot-kick to seal the doom of Hearts oldies after an interesting first half saw Awuley Quaye Jnr fetching the opener for the Wonder Club.

The match witnessed a display of skills by the retired players of both sides quite reminiscent of their heyday. The retired players of Olympics were presented with a trophy and $10,000 cash by Mr Daniel McKorley, the CEO of the McDan Group of Companies. The competition was staged to promote peace during the upcoming general election and also bring the former players of the two Accra-based clubs together. According to George Alhassan, who featured for Olympics on the day, the competition was also to support the bring back the love campaign initiated by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Among the players who paraded for Oympics were Theophilus Mensah, Akwei Maclean, Dan Quaye, Afo Dodoo, Amoah Tawiah, David Lartey, Awuley Quaye Jnr, Moro Issah, Issah Alhassan, Pee Lartey, Godwin Attram, George Alhassan, Nii Moi Maclean, Odoi Yemoh, Yusif Yakubu, Charles Duah, Shadrack Adjei and Kwasi Bonsu.

Hearts also featured Kwatei Quartey, Ben Adjei, Tachie Mensah, Michael Donkoh, Solomon Okutu, Ernest Okyere, Ablade Morgan, Sam Johnson, Thomas Otinkorang, Joseph Tagoe, Chief Appiah, Wisdom Abbey, Moses Coffie, Sampson Lamptey and Ashietey Armah.
