Normalisation Committee supports JAK Cup with GHC25,000

The GFA Normalisation Committee has donated GHC25,000 to support the President John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) Cup match between Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

A release signed by the president of the Normalisation Committee, Dr Kofi Amoah, said the gesture was to ensure a successful organisation of the JAK Cup.

Dr Amoah further revealed that the Committee would also provide some logistics to assist with the organisation of the match which is a regional derby.

Dr Amoah explained that the decision was in recognition of J. A. Kufuor’s achievement as a former president of Ghana, which spans beyond sports.

He said the Normalisation Committee believed in the ideals of the former President in ensuring the country in general and sports, in particular, thrived under his watch.

The match will be graced by former President John Agyekum Kufuor himself, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other dignitaries.

The JAK Cup match is one of the activities aimed at raising GH¢80 million to cater for the various developments and leadership projects under the JAK Foundation.

The game will also be in honour of former president John Agyekum Kufuor, who turned 80 on December 8, 2018.

As a former board chairman of Kotoko, President Kufuor’s contribution to Ghana Football includes spearheading the nation's maiden FIFA World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006 and also ensuring the construction of two new stadia in Tamale and Essipon to host AFCON 2008. As part of the Ghana 2008 hosting, the Kumasi and Accra stadia were also refurbished into modern edifices.

He also instilled pride and honour in playing for the national team by introducing a winning bonus system that motivated the Black Stars players and the technical staff to die for the nation.

The GFA appreciates and extols the significant and foundational structures JAK laid for Ghana and, we join the organisers of the J.A. Kufuor Cup in saluting him for these achievements for our nation.
