Ghana’s Golden Arms have unveiled a squad of experienced armwrestlers for the 2026 World Armwrestling Championships in New Delhi, India, with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) appealing for financial support to facilitate the team’s participation.
The championship is scheduled for October 26 to November 7, 2026, and will bring together competitors from across the globe.
The Federation is calling on corporate Ghana, government institutions, philanthropists and sports enthusiasts to help fund the team’s travel and participation, warning that financial constraints remain a major concern ahead of the competition.
Leading the women’s contingent are Mabel Yeboah (60kg), Blessed Abeka Nunoo (65kg) and Grace Minta (89kg), alongside Florence Boakye (110+kg), Afia Kumah (110+kg) and Comfort Dunyo, who will compete in the 60kg masters category.
The men’s team comprises Edward Asamoah Yamoah, Haruna Tahiru, Godwin Sackey, Daniel Acquah, Charles Osei Asibey Jr., Henry Otoo and Asinu Dodzie.
The selected athletes are expected to build on Ghana’s growing reputation in the sport as they target medals against the world’s leading armwrestlers.
The Federation said support from businesses and other stakeholders would be crucial to ensuring the athletes can represent the country at the global event.
“Financial constraints” remain a major obstacle, according to the Federation’s appeal, which stresses the need to ensure that funding difficulties do not deny the selected competitors the opportunity to represent Ghana.
The appeal also presents an opportunity for sponsors to associate their brands with a sport that has continued to raise Ghana’s profile at continental and international competitions.
Over the years, the Ghana Armwrestling Federation has developed athletes capable of competing at the highest level, while creating opportunities for talent development and national representation.
The Golden Arms’ participation in New Delhi is expected to provide another opportunity to demonstrate their strength and competitiveness on the world stage.
With the October 26 opening date approaching, the Federation is hopeful that corporate institutions, government agencies and well-meaning Ghanaians will rally behind the team to secure the resources needed for the trip.
The athletes’ immediate challenge is to get to India; their ultimate goal is to return with medals and further enhance Ghana’s standing in international armwrestling.
