Nine to man Powerlifting Association

Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Alice Attipoe, swearing in the new executive.A nine-member executive has been inaugurated to regulate and supervise the activities of a new sporting discipline in the country known as powerlifting.

The Ghana Powerlifting Federation (GPF) is the latest sporting association in the country.

Last Wednesday, the acting Director General of the National Sports Authority, Madam Alice Attipoe, swore in the new executive for the fledgling sport in her office at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The new executive has Godwill Agyemang as president and Peter Adjei as his vice. The rest are Ignatius Elletey as General Secretary, Ernest Ntiamoah Sefa as treasurer and David Boateng as organiser.

It also includes Roger Pannah as an executive member, Edward Oppong Dankwah as member and Bright Arku also as a member.

Madam Attipoe tasked the group to spread their tentacles, and move to the hinterlands to recruit talents and groom them for the national cause.

She also entreated them to focus more on disabled powerlifters, and cautioned them against concentrating on abled-bodied athletes alone.

Mr Agyeman, on behalf of the other executives, pledged to hit the ground running while appealing for the support of all to make powerlifting a national past time.

Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. It has been a paralympic sport since 1984.
