Laryea’s opponent chickens out

Fighters from the continent seeking to unseat defending champion of the WBO Africa featherweight title, John Laryea, seem to be chickening out.

Manager of the boxer, Samuel Anim Addo, told Graphic Sports that a Tanzanian opponent who had earlier showed up to fight the 23-year-old has also pulled out of the fight.

Laryea, aka ‘Expensive Boxer’ who has won all his 13 fights with a knockout was due to fight a Tanzanian on October 7, but the fight has been botched due to the refusal of the opponent to honour the fight.

This has forced his managers to arrange for a different boxer to fill the gap and the manager said they have named Gabriel Odoi Laryea to replace the boxer.

But in a combat ready mood, the 23-year-old told Graphic Sports he has seized the opportunity to make a case as one of the best boxers in the division.

“I am not afraid of anyone in my weight division, and I am ready to fight anyone, and all my fans know what I can do", he said.

Laryea says his record speaks for itself and his 13 wins by way of knockout speaks of how ferocious he is as a boxer, and he is ready to prove that at any time.

He also promised to ensure the money spent on him by his managers was not wasted and would work hard to ensure he paid back the confidence reposed in him.

“My managers know what I can do so they invest a lot of money on me, so I don’t want to fail them. I have really prepared well now, and my coach has also taken a boxer to win world title before, so he is doing same with me to win world title soon.”
