Kotoko sack Kjetil Zachariasen days after Confed Cup exit

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has sacked their Norwegian Head coach Kjetil Zachariasen 10 days after they exited the CAF Confederation Cup at the preliminary stage.

Kotoko suffered elimination from the preliminary rounds of the Confederation Cup at the hands of Ivorian minnows San-Pédro.

The Porcupine Warriors succumbed to a disappointing 2-1 aggregate loss which led to death threats on the life of the Norwegian.

The club confirmed the termination of Zachariasen's contract in a tweet today.

A copy of the termination letter sighted by Graphic Online reveals that a performance clause which allows Kotoko to sack the Norwegian if he fails to reach at least the group stages of the CAF Champions' League or the Confederation Cup was triggered.

Appointed in July this year, Zachariasen's contract was due to run until 2022. He replaced Charles Kwablah Akonnor as head coach.

Zachariasen made his name with AshantiGold SC after replacing Svetislav Tanasijevic in the second round of the Normalisation Committee (NC) Special Competition.

The Norwegian coach guided the Miners to clinch the Tier 2 of the NC Special Competition and qualified the team to the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2019/2020 season.
