Kotoko begin ZESCO victory postmortem

An elated coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Charles Akonnor, is leaving nothing to chance as he begins 'a concentration and communication therapy' for his defenders as the CAF Confederation Cup gets hot.

The team conceded an avoidable late goal in their thin 2-1 win over Zambian premiership side, ZESCO United, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Coach Akonnor reckoned at a post-match press conference that miscommunication between his defenders and the goalkeeper has been the main cause of conceding and needed to be worked on.

Kotoko has conceded in every game despite producing some amazing victories in recent times.

"Yes we have been conceding but the most important thing is that we have been winning," Coach Akonnor said.

Acknowledging the strength of ZESCO as perhaps the toughest side in Group C, Coach Akonnor said the victory was very 'relieving.'

Kotoko play yet another Zambian side, Nkana FC in their next match as they position themselves to book a ticket for the quarterfinals.

Without promising anything, Coach Akonnor said: "We plan match after match. We don't just play, we strategise according to the style of play of our opponents."

On his part, despite losing to Kotoko, ZESCO coach George Lwandamina, said his charges were streams ahead of Kotoko.

He said but for ill luck, the Zambian side could have won the match.

"This is not the Asante Kotoko team we knew yesteryears", he said, promising a great game in the return leg.
