“I am very passionate about boxing and despite my hectic teaching schedule, I find ample time to box,” the college science lecturer told the Daily Graphic in an interview from his UK base yesterday.

King, who was once under the tutelage of Coach Kwasi Ofori Asare, fought British hard-hitter, Big Josh, and won the Gingers Dingers Boxing Championship held in Birmingham on January 8.

While in Ghana early last year, he trained in the famous Seconds Out Gym under the supervision of trainers Frank and Nii Martey.

Nicknamed ‘King Freedom’, Nii Lante holds a first degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom. He completed his post-graduate course at the Warwick University.

“Boxing is my life, blood and passion, having acquired the fighting spirit from my infancy and learnt the basic canons and tenets of martial arts from my dad who is a shotokan expert.

“He exposed me to various martial arts, including shotokan and wrestling, and this is where I imbibed the spirit of boxing,” he revealed.

Nii Lante currently trains at Connelys gym owned by BKB Championship contender, James Connely, under Spence McCraken Snr.
