Kenichi Yatsuhashi: Aduana take gamble on Japanese

Ghana’s CAF Confederation Cup contenders, Aduana Stars, have taken a big gamble by appointing Japanese trainer, Kenichi Yatsuhashi, as the new head coach exactly a week into their third Group A match against Vita Club of DR Congo at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Kenichi, the rolling stone, assumed duty yesterday as a replacement for Yusif Abubakari, who won the club’s second Premier League title last season.

The new appointment came just a week after the maverick trainer had parted company with another Premier League side, Inter Allies, based in the harbour city of Tema.

The Chief Executive Officer of the club, Albert Commey, who broke the news to the Daily Graphic yesterday said the Japanese trainer was introduced to the playing body on his arrival in Dormaa-Ahenkro yesterday.

Mr Commey, however, declined to give details of the new contract which was yet to be firmed up as of press time yesterday.

While Aduana Stars supporters instigated Coach Abubakar’s exit due to the club’s poor performance in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup campaign, observers believe the Japanese trainer might not be the right choice for the Ghanaian champions.

Kenichi is notorious for not seeing through his contract as was evident during his stints with Accra Hearts of Oak in the 2015/2016 season, Ifeanyi Ubah FC of Nigeria in 2016 and International Allies just this season.

He, therefore, has a big challenge to prove the sceptics wrong this time round in his new job.

Mr Commey exclusively told the Daily Graphic that management was compelled to mutually terminate Coach Abubakar’s contract yesterday though his deal was due to run out in November.

He explained that the severance package for the coach included three months advance salary, two months outstanding salary and two plots of land at Sunyani which the owner of the club, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II promised him when Aduana Stars won the league last season.
