In the exhilarating 3-1 triumph against Liberia on Tuesday, Ayew not only secured the victory for his team but also etched his name into the annals of Ghanaian football history.

Stepping onto the pitch as a substitute for Ernest Nuamah in the 62nd minute, Ayew left an indelible mark by slotting a crucial goal in the 82nd minute.

This accomplishment propels him to within four goals of his brother and Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew.

Ayew now boasts a total of 20 goals joint with Sulley Muntari, Mohammed Polo and Wilberforce Mfum, a testament to his exceptional skill and unwavering dedication on the field. His father, Abedi Pele, concluded his illustrious career with 33 goals.

Three-time African Footballer of the Year Abedi Pele tallied 33 goals in 73 appearances before retiring, while Jordan Ayew has notched 20 goals in 92 appearances.

It is worth noting that Asamoah Gyan still holds the record for the highest number of goals scored for Ghana, amassing an impressive 51 goals in 109 appearances before hanging up his boots.

In addition to this milestone, Jordan Ayew now stands as Ghana’s fourth-most capped player following his substitute appearance in the 3-1 victory over Liberia.

UPDATE: This story has been edited to reflect Abedi Pele's accurate tally of goals.
