I want to be the world’s best sprinter — Sarfo Ansah

The boys under-18 winner of last year’s Ghana’s Fastest Human, Sarfo Ansah, is nurturing an ambitious target of becoming the world’s top sprinter in future and hopefully becoming the first Ghanaian to hold the world sprints record in five years’ time.

Ansah, a General Arts student of Jachie-Pramso Senior High (JAPASS), says he has already begun working hard towards achieving his dream of becoming a world-class sprinter in the 100 metres and 200m events by training daily under the supervision of his coach.

Last September, the youngster run impressive times of 10.37 seconds and 21.52 seconds in the 100m and 200m respectively at the Surfline-sponsored competition in Kumasi, but he is keen on lowering his times to enable him to compete in top local and international competitions.

Although a junior athlete at the moment, the teenager has very audacious targets in sight, as he draws inspiration from world sprints king Usain Bolt.

“I want to be the best sprinter in the world, and to achieve that feat, I need to train very hard. My intention is to continue working hard so that by five years’ time, I break the records set by Usain Bolt,” a confident Ansah told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

He revealed also that the Jamaican legend Bolt was his role model and was studying his technique and all his ways to enable him to attain his goal by five years time.

“I always wake up very early, train alone for some time before classes begin. I have also been training with my coach in Kumasi regularly and this is putting me in good shape. Gradually my confidence is rising and being the national U-18 fastest male is also boosting my ego to aim high,” added the youngster, who is combining academic work and athletics.
