‘Hotel accomodation better for Grant’

Barely a year after Avram Grant’s appointment as technical head of the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association(GFA) is yet to find him a permanent accomodation.

But George Afriyie, vice-president of the Ghana Football Association, told the Graphic Sports last Wednesday that it was cheaper housing him in a hotel than to rent an accommodation for the coach.

He explained that it cost on the FA between $4,000 and $5,000 monthly to house the expatrites who preceded Grant.

Afriyie, who is also the chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, told the press last week in Accra that the FA was working to secure a permanent accomodation for the Stars coach.

"It doesn't make sense to be paying between $4,000 and $5,000 monthly on rent because we could use that money to pay for mortgage for a property to permanently house our coaches, Afriyie contended.

He dismissed assertions in a section of the media that the lack of accomodation contributed to Grant's continued absence from the country, insisting that the FA paid the bills once the coach was in the hotel.

For now, he was sure the 61-year-old Israeli trainer would spend more time in the country because the local league was in session and expected to continue with his scouting.
