Holy Fingers dominate volleyball tourney in Kumasi

Holy Fingers, male volleyball team, defeated Ejura-based Highlanders 3-2 in the final of the one-day volleyball tournament held at the weekend in Kumasi.

Eight male teams competed for honours and other cash rewards in the competition organised to promote the sport in the Ashanti Region.

Competing teams were Highlanders, Ammusted, Saint Peters, Holy Fingers, KNUST, Blue Gold Spikes, Royal, and Supreme.

The women's division comprised three teams namely Islamic, KNUST and Holy Fingers.

In the final, Holy Fingers defeated Islamic 2-0 to lift the trophy at stake to ensure a clean sweep of honours by the male and female teams from the Kumasi Central Police Park.

The chairman of the Ashanti Regional Volleyball Association, Chief Officer Kwabena Asoga, said after the competition that the sport was catching on well in the region and called for support from the National Sports Authority to further develop volleyball and make it very popular among the youth.

The president of the Ghana Volleyball Association, George Tettey, who was a special guest at the event, pledged more support for the development of the sport in the region with a promise to ensure volleyball developed to be placed among the best three sporting disciplines in the country.
