Hearts, Kotoko register for Autonomous Premier League

Premier League giants, Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, have committed to the autonomous league by becoming the first clubs to pay for the subscription fees.

Under the independently managed league arrangement which is set to start next season, the Ghana Premier League will be managed and run by the clubs while the Ghana Football Association will only be responsible for the registration of players and officials and disciplinary issues.

In order to be part of the Autonomous Premier League as a company, it was agreed by the clubs to pay GH₵100,000 as subscription or registration fee, which the two traditional giants have taken decisive steps to pay ahead of its deadline.

Last week, the Autonomous League Implementation Committee chaired by Hearts Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV met all the 18 Premier League clubs to brief them on work done so far.

At the briefing, it was disclosed that the company would open a bank account and the clubs were made aware that they would have a representation on the Autonomous League Board and also steps taken towards the commencement of the league.

The meeting also discussed plans for stakeholder engagements with the Youth and Sports Ministry, institutions, sponsors, partners, media right holders, supporters, media, referees, match commissioners and coordinators, stadium or facility owners, as well as the general public.

The media engagement will also include an education drive to update supporters and the public on the nature, form and rules of the new organisation of the premier league under the new company.
