Hearts, Kotoko get GH¢1.2 million GOIL sponsorhip

The Managing Director of Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), Mr Kwame Osei-Prempeh, has called for more investment from corporate bodies and individuals into domestic football to enable Ghanaian players and teams develop well and become internationally competitive.

He said it was about time Ghanaians turned their attention from foreign football (which has taken over the television screens and the media) and concentrated on developing the game locally, which has a lot of socio-economic gains for the country.

Last Friday, GOIL renewed its partnership with Ghana’s leading football clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, with a sponsorship package worth GH¢ 1.2 million.

The sponsorship package is subject to renewal when it expires on February 21, 2021.

The package comprise cash support of GH¢40,000 for each club monthly to support the welfare of their players. In addition, each club will receive GH¢ 10,000 in fuel coupons to support their travels across the country to honour their matches.

Support for local football

Speaking to the Daily Graphic after signing the agreement in Accra last Friday, Mr Osei-Prempeh said GOIL was desirous to support the accelerated growth of local football with the view of improving standards and making local teams more competitive at the international level.

“GOIL takes our corporate social responsibilities very seriously, and since Ghanaians like football, we feel supporting the two big teams will generate keen interest in the league, and make it much more competitive,” he said.

He noted that by supporting Hearts and Kotoko, they would be in a position to pay their players very well and keep them in the local league for them to entertain their fans at the various league centres.
