Hearts, Cities settle for a draw

Substitute Osman Amadu came off the bench and netted a late equaliser to deny visiting Accra Hearts of Oak the maximum point as Legon Cities fought back to draw 1-1 with the League Champions at the El-Wak Stadium last Saturday.

The Phobians took an early lead through Isaac Mensah in the 12th minute after an onslaught in the visitors' half but struggled to increase the tally as they failed to connect the numerous chances that came their way into the back of the net.

Experienced midfielder Sulley Muntari, who featured in his fourth straight match for Hearts put attacker Isaac Mensah through to head home the opener, but as Hearts failed to hold on, a late goal from Amadu saw the two sides sharing the spoils.

Legon Cities' goalkeeper William Essu was the star of the day as he pulled off a number of brilliant saves to keep his side in the game.

The shot stopper denied Daniel Afriyie Barnieh in the 28th minute as he stretched at full length to push out a dangerous ball that was heading in. Essu again pulled a sensational save inside 87th minutes to continue his brilliant display.

Cities intensified the pressure on Hearts and got rewarded in added time. Amadu, who was brought in for Hamza Nasiru in the 68th minute, netted the equaliser inside the 92nd minute to break the heart of the away fans who were anticipating for their first win in four matches - having gone winless since January 30.

The result left Hearts in the seventh spot with 26 points - while Legon Cities remain in 11th place with 22 points.
