Asamoah Gyan lucrative move to Chinese Super League to join Shanghai SIPG has shot the Ghanaian striker among the world’s best paid placing sixth behind Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gareth Bale.

His position also makes him Africa’s highest paid footballer, with his whopping £226,923.07 ($350,000) a week salary in China, placing him above Cote’d’Ivoire and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure who earns £220,000 weekly.

 

Gyan, a former Sunderland and Al Ain striker, behind  Messi (£313,461), Ronaldo (£288,000), Rooney (£285,000),  Ibrahimovic (£275,000) and Bale £256,000, according to UK-based sports business and entertainment website, Thekingmaker.me, which released their compiled list of 200 best paid footballers in the world.

Michael Essien is the only other Ghanaian named in the list of 200 highest paid footballers at number 176 on £60,000 (GH¢378,000) a week at Greek side Panathinaikos.

On an African perspective, Emmanuel Adebayor is the 3rd highest paid player from the continent on £101,000 weekly (66th in the world) even though he remains unattached after his paying club, Tottenham Hotspur failed to register him for competition this season.
