Greater Accra Taekwondo rep to be selected Saturday

In response to the national sports festival, this year’s Greater Accra Taekwondo Championships would be the platform for the selection of Greater Accra Taekwondo representatives to the festival slated for August 31st to September 7 in Kumasi.

The championship, the fourth edition to be held is being staged at the All Saints Anglican Church in Adabraka this Saturday and is expected to witness over 200 Taekwondo practitioner across the Greater Accra Region slugging it out for honours and prizes.

Spear-headed by the Greater Accra Sports Directorate and with its director, Jeffrey Manzan Owusu as the special guest of honour, the competition is eligible for all Taekwondo clubs and teams in Greater Accra.

According Master Norbert Amefu who spoke to the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday, a weigh-in for competitors would be held at the All Saints Anglican Church at Adabraka on Friday.

“This competition as always is geared towards the national cause and is opened to all taekwondo practitioners, clubs and teams”, he stated.

He disclosed that 30 clubs and teams from the Ashanti Region would also take part in the event to prepare for major events on the calendar.

“Visiting clubs from Togo, Niger and Benin would also compete for honours and prestige”, he added.

Master Amefu noted that an Olympic style weight category format would be used in the competition and noted that competition is also opened to juniors between the ages of 15 and 16.

The event starts at 8 am on Saturday.
