GNPC Fastest Human initiative lauded
The Executive secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante, has commended GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human initiative and described it as one that could help unearth sprint talents for the country.
Nana Asante, who was the special guest of honour at the launch of this year’s talent hunt competition at the Accra Sports Stadium last Thursday said the competition deserved the necessary support until the country was able to win Olympic medals in sprint.

He commended the founder of the competition, Mr Reks Brobby, for his determination to ensure that hidden talents were uncovered to bridge the widening gap as a result of the absence of procedures to hone and develop sprint talents.
Unearthing talents
Each year, the competition unearths and trains talented sprinters to represent the country in international competition, and ahead of the start of the talent hunt six talented athletes have already been given the green light to join this season’s GNPC Speedsters Club.
They are Abdul Rasheed Samini, Grace Obuor, Latifa Ali, Edwin Gadayi, Kate Agyeman and Afaxoe Harry Remember.
These outstanding athletes, Mr Brobby explained, were the fourth batch to be inducted into the club and promised not to relent until he uncovered talents that could win medals at the Olympic Games for the country.
Mr Brobby promised to ensure this year’s competition was an improvement on the previous years,’ stating that experienced coaches would be sent out across the country to scout for exceptional talents to be trained for future competitions.
Selection of athletes
Dr Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, special advisor to the Minister of Youth & Sports, offered to be personally involved in the selection process of athletes expected to represent the country in international competitions, promising to offer them scientific training to excel on the world stage.
Nene Nagai Kasa VIII, Paramount Chief of Agomeda, who chaired the function called on Ghanaians and companies to support the Ghana Fastest Human programme as it was laudable and worthy to be associated with.
Mr Anslem Ray Sowah, MD of GCB Bank, and Mrs Carmen Bruce-Annan, head of Corporate Affairs of GNPC, expressed their excitement for associating with the programme and were hopeful Ghana could soon rule the world of athletics.
