Ghana Sports Excellence Awards slated for December 21

About 30 sports personalities will be honoured on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Annual Ghana Sports Excellence Awards to be held at the British Council in Accra.

The Ghana Sports Excellence Awards, instituted in 2014 by Hallmark Plus, will recognise and celebrate various sports personalities who have excelled in their respective sporting disciplines in the country.

According to the organisers, the awardees would include boxers, runners, footballers, tennis stars, swimmers as well as sports journalists for their tremendous contributions in the field of sports journalism.

Sports administrators and corporate institutions will also be recognised for their exceptional contribution to sports development and promotion in the country.

Previous winners include former Graphic Sports Editor, Mr Felix Abayateye and ace women's football enthusiast and a news desk editor at the Daily Graphic, Rosalind K. Amoh. A Ghanaian-British journalist with the BBC, Jeanette Kwakye was also recognised in 2020. 

The organiser of the event, Franklin Boateng, explained that the awardees would be selected through an independent judging process under the direction of a chief reviewer.

“we strive to ensure that the annual Ghana Sports Excellence Awards scheme is embedded in the minds of all as a landmark event in sports advancement in the country,” he said.
