Armwrestling: Ashanti Challenge tomorrow

The Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi will host the next stage of the Eagle Extra Stout Armwrestling Challenge at Janet and Son's Spot, Krofuom, tomorrow.

The event, dubbed: ‘The Ashanti Challenge’, has already been to the Western, Eastern and the Brong regions with the objective of encouraging participation in the sport.

The Ashanti event, which is open to men and women of 18 years and above in six weight categories, will also serve as a platform for selecting the best armwrestlers in the Ashanti Region for the national team.

will host the event, which has already generated a “wrangle over" as two of Ghana's best, Derrick Kwakye, aka “Asoka”, and Mark Antwi, the “Punisher”, are hotly billed to encounter each other to settle on who is the best puller in the country.

The Ashanti Challenge is expected to be the biggest competition as the free entry is expected to attract contestants from the various gyms, keep fit clubs, security services, tertiary institutions and the general community.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) and Eagle Extra Stout will take armwrestling to the communities with friendly encounters in some selected training gyms and drinking bars around Amakom, Bantama, Kejetia, Suntreso, Patase, Dechemso and other areas in the Kumasi environs to create awareness about the Ashanti Challenge.

The Eagle Extra Stout Armwrestling Challenge is a collaboration between the federation and the Eagle Extra Stout brand, a fully flavoured stout from Accra Brewery Limited.

The brand manager of Eagle Extra Stout, Mr John Baptist Akado, indicated that the collaboration with GAF had been successful and reiterated the company’s willingness to continue engaging in the development and promotion of armwrestling.
