Gallant Super Falcons arrive home after 2023 World Cup exit

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived home following their elimination from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The players including, Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Osinachi Ohale, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Onome Ebi, Gift Monday and Rofiat Imuran arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 9.

They were welcomed on arrival at the airport by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member, Ganiu Majekodunmi, Chairman of Lagos Football Association, Faoud Oki and other top dignitaries.

Some of the players flew back to their various clubs in the USA and they included Michelle Alozie, Jennifer Echegini, Esther Okoronkwo, Ifeoma Onumonu, Deborah Abiodun, Ashleigh Plumptre and Toni Payne.

The nine-time African champions were knocked out of the competition in the Round of 16 by the Three Lionesses of England.

Coach Randy Waldrum’s side put up a spirited performance against the European champions but bowed out of the competition after losing 4-2 on penalties after the match had ended goalless in regulation time.

The Super Falcons drew goalless with Canada in their Group B opening match, won 3-2 against co-host nation Australia and recorded 0-0 with the Republic of Ireland in their final group game before their elimination by England in the Round of 16.
