A letter of notice to all clubs said the process would open to the Ghana Premier League clubs, Division One League clubs as well as Divisions Two and Three at the regions.

Also eligible to register their players during the open window are juvenila clubs and the women’s leagues clubs made up of both the National Women’s League and the regional women’s leagues.

The biometric registration exercise, introduced during the 2016 season, has been adopted from football’s world governing body, FIFA’s Connect Programme as part of international club licensing

The programme is intended to check double registration, cheating with regard to age, names and other bio data, which had over the years created controversy in football circles.

The biometric registration also ties in with the FIFA reform project – to collect accurate information on all players in affiliate associations globally.

At least, since implementation, the controversies of late registration, illegal registration as well as double registration and cheating, have been virtually non-existent or curbed to a very large extent in Ghana football.
