FC Porto win race for Majeed Waris

Portuguese giants FC Porto have won the race for Ghanaian attacker Majeed Waris, according to Foot Mercato.

Lorient have accepted a loan with a €6m option to buy offer from Sergio Conceição’s outfit. Waris is now expected to travel to Porto to complete a move in the coming hours.

Ouest France earlier reported that Ligue 1 side Caen had reached a loan with the option to buy agreement with French second division outfit Lorient for the signing of Majeed Waris, but Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto have now gazumped Caen for the Ghanaian striker.

Porto’s initial offer to Les Merlus was inferior and the player’s agents were receiving a better commission in the Caen deal and therefore were putting pressure on the Ghanaian international to join the Normandy club.

However, Waris wants to play for Sergio Conceição in Portugal and especially in the Champions’ League, with a tasty tie against Liverpool coming up soon.

An ultimate decision should be expected in the next 24 hours.
