Cricket: Everest to get training facility

Perennial achievers and defending league champions, Everest Cricket Club, are close to completing a cricket practice facility for the Atomic Energy School.

The project is being undertaken by the club in partnership with Supreme Cricket Club and will see three cricket practice nets being built across the Atomic Energy Schools to promote and grow the sport.

The facility has the backing of the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) and is expected to be completed in November to be used by young cricket players to learn and practice the sport.

It is part of Everest Club's contribution to the growth of the game in the country after chalking up some successes since establishing itself as a club in 2015.

Recently, Everest became the first cricket club in the country to offer players reasonable contracts and monthly salaries.

In its fold are national team players including Simon Steak, Vincent Ateak, Michael Aboagye and Joseph Aboagye, while the club also hired the services of Indian and Sri Lankan players to beef up its squad for the ongoing season.

The Director of the club, Mr Varadarajan Girish, told the Daily Graphic that the club was bent on making cricket to rub shoulders with the elite sporting disciplines in the country.

"We want to grow talents among Ghanaian players and promote and improve the competition at all levels in the country," he said in an interview in Accra yesterday.
