Christopher Bonsu Baah: Ghanaian teenager reflects on Manchester United trial

KRC Genk sensation, Christopher Bonsu Baah, recently disclosed that he underwent a trial with Manchester United before securing a deal with Norwegian club Sarpsborg 08 in March last year. 

The 18-year-old, who has seamlessly adapted to life at Genk, shared insights into his football journey, shedding light on the pivotal trial experiences that shaped his career.

In an interview with De Zondag, Bonsu Baah revealed, "At the age of 14, I was allowed to go to an academy, the Shooting Stars, in Accra, and two years later, an agent brought me to Spain." The Ghanaian talent elaborated on his trials at prominent clubs, stating, "I was allowed to trial everywhere: at Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Manchester United… But because I was not yet 18, I couldn’t get a professional contract. It’s good that I have a lot of patience."

Despite his early trials, Bonsu Baah eventually found his footing at Sarpsborg 08, where his standout performances caught the attention of KRC Genk. The Belgian club secured his services for a substantial €5.2 million fee, a testament to his potential and impact on the field.

The young winger, predominantly playing on the right, has wasted no time proving his worth at Genk. In the current Jupiler Pro League season, Bonsu Baah has made 14 appearances, contributing with a crucial goal. His swift adaptation and promising performances underline why Genk was willing to invest significantly in his talent.

Reflecting on his journey, Bonsu Baah expressed gratitude, stating, "The fact that I can now also play here is the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life." While it remains uncertain if Manchester United is still monitoring the talented winger, his continued growth suggests that other top European clubs may soon join the race for his signature.
