Canada High Commission organises World Cup outdoor viewing
The Canadian High Commission in Ghana has reaffirmed Canada's commitment to delivering an unforgettable FIFA World Cup experience for football fans, particularly Ghanaians, at the global showpiece.
Speaking during an outdoor viewing event organised by the Commission last Friday, Counsellor (Commercial) and Senior Trade Commissioner of Canada to Ghana, Waqas I. Yousafzai, expressed excitement over Ghana's participation in the tournament and the prospect of hosting Ghanaian supporters in Canada.
The event featured a live screening of Canada's opening World Cup match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which ended in a 1-1 draw and earned the Canadians their first point in World Cup history.
"We are especially excited that the Black Stars of Ghana will be playing one of their matches in Toronto on June 17 against Panama. We look forward to seeing strong Ghanaian support both here and in Canada," Mr Yousafzai said.
He noted that Canada was well-positioned to host a successful tournament, citing the country's experience in organising major international sporting events, including the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015.
According to him, the experience gained from hosting those competitions would serve as a strong foundation for delivering a memorable World Cup for players, fans and participating nations.
Mr Yousafzai said the tournament would go beyond football and provide an opportunity to promote values such as unity, inclusion and cultural exchange.
"In the coming weeks, the tournament will not only showcase talent but also share values that unite us. Canada is proud to champion these values and help create a positive legacy from the Mundial," he stated.
The Senior Trade Commissioner also expressed appreciation to Tribe Consult for partnering the Canadian High Commission to organise the screening event.
He described sports as a powerful tool for bringing people together across cultures, communities and borders, adding that the gathering was a clear demonstration of football's ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds.
