World Boxing Organisation super bantamweight champion, Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe, has thrown a challenge to WBA titleholder, Danny Roman, for a unification fight after the Ghanaian makes his first title defence on August 25.
After congratulating the Roman (25-2-1, 9 KOs) for his second successive title defence last Saturday against Moises Flores, Dogboe (19-0, 13 KOs) dared the American to a title unification fight in the coming months.
"I was trying to box him. We tried to do a smart fight," Roman said. "We tried to take him out, but unfortunately we couldn't.
"I would like to unify. I would like to challenge any of the champions. I'd love to face Rey Vargas or Isaac Dogboe,” Roman said.
In a tweet yesterday, the 23-year-old Ghanaian responded to the call by Roman last Saturday to have either a unification bout with Dogboe or the WBC super bantamweight titleholder Rey Vargas.
“Firstly, congratulations on your win #DannyRoman you did what you had to do. I want to Unify and You want to unify, we both want to Unify. Let’s Do It. @thompsonboxing @trboxing @CarlMoretti Let’s set the division on fire. #DogboeRoman #Boxing @BoxeoMX”,” Dogboe posted on his Twitter account.
However, before a dream unification fight, the Ghanaian must make the first defence of his WBO crown against a yet-to-be-named opponent in the US in two months’ time.
Dogboe defeated Mexico’s Jessie Magdaleno to snatch his WBO title with an 11th round technical knockout on April 28 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The champion will be keen on making a successful defence in August when he mounts the ring for the third time this year.
With a possible rematch against Magdaleno out of the picture now after their common promoter, Top Rank, said it would not sanction
