Wheelchair race: Botsyo Nkegbe set for Dessert Challenge

National Paralympian, Botsyo Nkegbe, is due to leave the country for Arizona in the United States where he will participate in this year’s Dessert Challenge slated for May 18-22.

Even though this will not be the first time the wheelchair racing athlete will be participating in the event, he sounded optimistic he would make the country proud at the competition.

The event which is organised annually for disabled athletes will be Botsyo’s seventh participation in which he has previously won a total of four golds.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic ahead of the competition, Botsyo was confident he would make a mark again and explained that he has shifted his preparation to top gear for the event.

He said he has put behind the setback which denied him participation in the last Commonwealth Games and was ready to use the Arizona Challenge to qualify for the Birmingham Games slated for July 28 to August 8.

Botsyo stated that he was due to fly out of the country on April 25 where he will participate in a 12km road race in Spokane Washington after which he will engage in some training before moving to Arizona for the competition.

“My plan at the moment is to leave Ghana on April 25th. I have a couple of events lined up which starts from May 1st with a 12km road race at Spokane, Washington after which I will have a couple of training with Para-sports Spokane Club before moving to Desert Arizona on May 19th”, he said.

He said he was looking forward to better things ahead after the setback in the Tokyo 2020 games and stated that as a national athlete a lot of young ones were looking up to him.

“As a top national para-athlete, I can only put everything behind me and look forward to better things ahead because there are so many future para-athletes who are looking up to me as their role model.

The para-athlete expressed gratitude to Ghana Gas Company, India Women Association of Ghana and Opportunity International Savings and Loans as well as Dr Ben Asante CEO of Ghana Gas for the immense support.
