Basketball: Ghana defeats Nigeria to win African Basketball Festival

Ghana defeated Nigeria 33-32 to win the African Basketball Festival held last Friday at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

The interesting tie that featured select sides of Ghanaian and Nigerian basketball players resident in Ghana was played under floodlights. The Ghanaian side held on to win the match by one point and earned bragging rights over their West African neighbours.

In the other tie which preceded the Ghana-Nigeria clash, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) basketball team who came in as a late replacement for the USA select side defeated France 33-30.

The GIS team came from behind to snatch victory from the French who made a blistering start to the match.

The winners of the games will donate their winnings to an orphanage of their choice in the coming games.

The festival was organised by RITE Sports under the auspices of the Beyond the Return Committee.

It also featured a fashion show by Beautiful Beneath, Bloom by Edzi and Elikem Kumordzi as well as some musical performances.

The CEO of RITE Sports, Yaw Sakyi expressed his satisfaction with the event saying: "We are happy with the performance of the teams, officials and all partners. Looking at the excitement generated from the second edition, we are confident next year which has more countries participating will be more fun and rewarding for both teams and patrons with the number of days of extended".

"We thank our sponsors, fashion houses, musicians, Ghana Basketball Association, Beyond The Return office, Team Coordinators and all who played a role in ensuring the success of the show".
