Arsenal confirm Partey hamstring injury

Arsenal have been dealt a setback in the build-up to Sunday's Premier League clash with Leeds United with the confirmation of a hamstring injury to Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.

Partey who joined the Gunners from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid back in October was forced off with just over 15 minutes left of Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park.

With Arsenal chasing the game at 1-0 down, Partey signalled to the Arsenal bench that he was suffering and he was replaced by winger Willian.

After the fulltime whistle, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said the player had suffered a muscle injury, adding that the club will conduct an assessment to ascertain the extent of the injury.

The club has today confirmed that the player has been ruled out and will continue rehabilitation from the injury.

"Thomas sustained a strain to his left hamstring during last Saturday’s match at Aston Villa and will miss the match against Leeds United on Sunday. Thomas will continue to be assessed and rehabilitate from this injury," Arsenal said in a statement.

Partey has been plagued by injuries since his move to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid last year. He was first injured last November against Villa and suffered a knock in a loss against Wolves.
