Stephen Appiah, nicknamed “Tornado”, in his playing days, and veteran trainer,  Sam Arday, would assist  Coach Appiah for Ghana’s third World Cup campaign which begins on June 12.

Also included in Appiah’s backroom staff list is  a physiotherapist and a video analyst to help  upgrade  the monitoring software currently being used by the team.

Arday, technical director of newly promoted Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord, won the FIFA U-17 Championships in 1995 with the Black Starlets, while Appiah’s legendary motivational qualities were evident during Ghana’s two previous World Cup appearances in 2006 and 2010.

According to the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, the new video analyst would use the same software  used by English Premier League (EPL) champions, Manchester City.

He said  Coach Appiah’s backroom staff had been contracted purposefully for the duration of the Stars’ campaign at the World Cup.

“Sam Arday and Stephen Appiah will assist Kwasi Appiah with coaching duties, they will be joined by a doctor, a physiotherapist, a video analyst”. he added.

They join Sabahn Quaye (team manager), Yakubu Nasamu (goalkeepers trainer), Professor J.K. Mintah (psychologist) and Doctor Adam Baba (team doctor).
