Ampem Darkoa, Prisons battle for Super Cup

Ampem Darkoa are hoping to retain the Super Cup they won last year as they clash with their regional rivals, Prisons Ladies, at the Nana Agyeman Badu Park at Dormaa-Ahenkro tomorrow.

Darkoa, the National Women’s League (NWL) champions, won the maiden edition of the Super Cup last year, beating then Sanford FA Cup champions, Police Ladies, 1-0.

They have vowed to beat the new Sanford FA Cup champions, Prisons, tomorrow to retain the cup and also punish them for denying them the chance of a treble last season.

“We still have not forgotten how they ruined our plans last season. I guess we have an opportunity to make amends for that painful loss,” Grace Asantewaa, a winger for Ampem Darkoa told the Graphic Sports.

However, the Team Manager of Prisons Ladies, Fainusatu Naomi Abdulai, has called the bluff of the league champions, cautioning them to be wary of another disappointment.

“When we clashed in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, they were so sure they were going to beat us simply because they had won the league clash. In the end, they paid for their complacency, and the same thing could happen on Saturday if they continue to be  over-confident,” the Prisons Team Manager told the Graphic Sports.

She said the FA Cup victory had given them a spring in their step and they were poised on building on it for a good campaign this season.

With national team players like Priscilla Okyere, Grace Asantewaa, Justice Tweneboah all likely to be on duty for Ampem Darkoa, they have every reason to be confident of a win, but the reformers insist it is team work that will win the day for them.
