Agbozo, Adedapo win 2015 Korea Cup

  Taekwondo practitioners, Augustus Agbozo and Eunice Adedapo, from the Accra Polytechnic taekwondo Club, emerged the best male and female fighters respectively at this year’s Korea Cup Taekwondo Championship held at the D J Hithramani Sports Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 Before climbing to the top, Agbozo and Adedapo won gold in the -68 KG and the -55KG weight divisions after battling fiercely against the likes of Edmund Segbenu, Julian Aryee and Richard Tetteh, who won silver and bronze in the male category.

Adedapo also won gold at the expense of Ernestina Mensah, who took silver, with Jennifer Eshun and Ramat Alhassan winning bronze in the female division.

Benson Addo, from the Accra Polytechnic Taekwondo Club, won the most promising male fighter with Hamdiatu Bashiru from the George Barnes Club winning the best female fighter. 

Prisons Taekwondo Club in Accra became the best taekwondo club, while Sharon Akwei from the camp of Sesi Taekwondo Club took the award for the best para player.

This year’s Korea Cup Championship also witnessed the crowning of the winners of the maiden edition of the “I love taekwondo video contest, which was launched by the Korean Embassy in September this year.

They are Methodist Senior High School from Mamfe Akuapim, who won gold, Prisons and WAM Taekwondo Academy from Dawhenya, near Tema, who won silver and bronze respectively.

The video competition, sponsored by Rana Motors,  was also  aimed at encouraging the youth to develop keen interest in the sport.

Each club was supposed to send a 30 seconds video clip on the sport to the Korean embassy.

The winners took home certificates of honour, taekwondo protector sets, uniforms and poomsae training manuals.

The Korean Ambassador to Ghana, Lyeo Woon-Ki, was happy about the patronage and commended the clubs for the interest shown in the competition.

The president of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Frederick Otu Lartey, for his part, expressed appreciation to the practitioners, clubs and members of the federation for their unflinching support throughout the year and gave the assurance to make the competition even better next year.
