Aduana, Kotoko ready for Super Cup on Sunday?

Two of Ghana’s representatives in Africa this year, league champions, Aduana Stars and FA Cup winners, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, clash on Sunday at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium in the Super Cup to usher in the 2017/2018 League season.

Aduana engage Libya side Al Tahaddy, while Kotoko play host to nine-time Congo Brazzaville champions, Athletique Renaissance Aiglon fondly called CARA in the preliminary round on Sunday, February 11, 2018.

Unfortunately, the two sides failed to qualify for the final of Ghana’s pre-season tournament, the GHALCA G8, after they were knocked out in the semi-final by Accra Hearts of Oak and Dreams FC respectively in the two weeks competition.

Despite the unimpressive showing, the handlers of the two teams appear content with the output of their charges and according to Kotoko Head Coach, Steve Polack, it had exposed him to the weaknesses of the team.

Aduana and Kotoko officials are urging their fans to put the G8 upset behind them and rally behind the team to bring honour to the country. The last time the two sides competed in Africa, they were both eliminated at the preliminary round and are expected to make amends this year.

With barely five days to the big game, Obuasi, venue for the Super Cup, appears quiet and most fans unaware of the match.

Aduana have been evasive on their preparedness and a possible game plan only to protest against the match venue because it could favour Kotoko.

A management member, Albert Commey, is reported to have protested officially to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the venue hoping the match would be switched to a venue that could favour both teams. But the GFA is yet to respond.

Barring any last minute hitch, Ghana’s Champion of Champions could be decided on Sunday at Obuasi.
