Aduana Stars shot stopper, Stephen Adams, says he has been persuaded by management of the club to extend his contract with a promise to secure an European deal for him in the future.

Barely one week after confirming to Graphic Sports that he was on the verge of a move to Accra Hearts of Oak, the goalkeeper made a surprise u-turn to sign a new contract with the Dormaa-Ahenkro side, saying that he did not want to mar the cordial relationship that existed between him and his employers.

On Tuesday, Adams explained to the Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview that his dream of wearing the Phobian colours was shattered because Hearts management did not officially write to Aduana to facilitate the proposed move.

On the other hand, he revealed that Kumasi Asante Kotoko made an official bid for him but the terms were not favourable and the move fell though.

“I wanted to move on but management refused. Even though I was a free player and I could go anywhere, I see Aduana as my mother club so I agreed to stay,” he said.

“Moreover, they have asked me to take my time while they search for a good club in Europe for me”, he added.

Adams’ contract with the Dormaa-Ahenkro side ended at the close of the 2015 season and automatically became a free agent, hence the speculations about his future in recent weeks.

However, the player’s reported move to Hearts was quashed by Aduana CEO, Albert Aryeetey Commey, who called it as mere speculations.

According to him, management of Aduana had no idea about any negotiations to transfer the 2010 Ghana Premier League best goalkeeper.

“Stephen Adams is going nowhere because he has extended his contract with Aduana for the next two years,” Commey told the Graphic Sports yesterday.
