Adam Kwarasey quits Vålerenga

Ghanaian goalie Adam Larsen Kwarsey has quit Norwegian club Vålerenga with four-months left to run on his current deal.

Kwarasey's contract was terminated by mutual consent and in line with Vålerenga's policy to sign young local players.

"Of course I wish I had the opportunity to achieve something here, but that's football. Things do not always go smoothly. I am very happy for, and proud to have played with the Vålerenga logo on my chest even in adulthood", Kwarasey said in an interview with the Vålerenga website.

"Vålerenga and Valle will always be close to me after spending almost 15 years of my life here. But then it's like with everything else: Things end sometime. Now is the time to move on. I wish my teammates good luck and hope they can take Vålerenga back to the top of Norwegian football again".

On his part, the Sports Manager of Vålerenga, Jørgen Ingebrigtsen insisted that there was no drama behind the split.

He said: "There is no drama behind this. We have chosen a strategy to focus on young local players, and have Kristoffer and Kjetil in the same position as Adam. These are the ones we have chosen to focus on in the future, and then this is a natural decision."

The 32-year-old former Ghana No. 1 has been plagued by a troublesome back injury since joining Vålerenga in 2017 but he has since returned to full training and insists he is not ready to retire.

He has previously had stints with Strømsgodset, Portland Timbers, Rosenborg and Brondby. Kwarasey has also made 24 appearances for the senior national team of Ghana.
