Accra Open Tennis: Bagerbaseh, Antwi stun opponents

Tennis prodigy Japheth Bagerbaseh teamed up with Samuel Antwi to stun Benjamin Palm and Isaac Nortey 6-4, 7-5 in the professionals category of the Accra City Open Doubles at the Accra Lawn Tennis Court last Tuesday.

In the highly competitive game, Bagerbaseh and Antwi, who were the pre-match favourites, did not disappoint as they fought hard on the court, returning some difficult shots from their opponents to win the game.

Fortunately, Reginald Okantey and Derick Ominde did not have to suffer much as they easily dispatched Ron Kaster Ako and George Annan 6-0, 6-2.

In the other professionals doubles games, Johnson Acquah and Ronald Totimeh also fought hard to beat Felix Hammond and Agassi Tomegah 6-4, 7-6 (3), while Andrew Adu-Appiah and Samuel Nyamekye beat Francis Akpese and Benjamin Fumi 6-3, 6-4.

The Semi Professionals category also saw Thomas Amoako Boafo and Robert Kpodo beat Andrews Adu-Appiah and Clement Alisi 9-7, while in the men’s 60-69 year category Bob Williams and Henry Nortey beat Mike Hukpati and Charles Quaye 9-6.

The men’s 50-59 years category saw Godwin Ayindua and Michael Amoako Atta beat David Kesseh and Jesse Desbordes 9-7, while George Mills and Philip Mensah beat Edward Nii Botchway 9-3.

Frank Quartey-Simpson and Richmond Kotey beat Emmanuel Abeka Mensah and Reto Reto Dennis 9-4 in the 30-39 category, with Damniel Kafui Abiti defeating Ransford Mensah and Prince Tetteh 9-8(0).
