The young jockeys, who put up splendid performances in their various divisions last Saturday, said they had intensified their training to give their seniors a run for their money this weekend.
Ebenezer Adjetey, who rode Amora to win the ultimate in the maidens division last Saturday, told the Daily Graphic that he hoped to maintain his form and stamina to finish first in his division this weekend.
“I have been training at the Labadi beach since Monday because I want to win again on Saturday and that will only come by hard work and sacrifices,” he said.
Elmina-based jockey Moses Amoah, who also made his first appearance at the last competition and rode Blessing from the stables of Coconut Grove Beach Resort to finish third in the maidens division, is aiming to improve on last weekend’s feat.
“I am training hard because I want to improve upon my last position. Finishing third last weekend was good but I believe I can do better and the only way to do that is to train more. I want the fans to watch out for me on Saturday”, Jockey Amoah told the Daily Graphic over the telephone yesterday.
According to the organisers eight horses will line up to do battle in the Division 4A event, 10 horses will run in Division 4C, four will settle scores in Division 3B while 14 horses will lock horns in the maidens division.
