2023 Africa Basketball Festival launched with expanded lineup
The anticipation is building as the 2023 Africa Basketball Festival prepares to showcase an extended roster of talent, music, and culture.

Scheduled to unfold from December 15 to December 17, the festival features eight competitive teams, a notable expansion from the four nations that participated last year—France, USA, Ghana, and Nigeria.
This three-day extravaganza not only welcomes back familiar faces but introduces new contenders to the court, including the UK, Liberia, Togo, and an additional nation that will add to the spirited competition.
Speaking at the launch on Thursday in Accra, Yaw Sakyi Afari, the Project Lead of the Africa Basketball Festival, conveyed his optimism for the event's growth during a media briefing following the launch. Afari underscored the progress reflected in this year's expansion to eight participating countries, emphasizing the festival's commitment to creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.
"Last year, we had an impressive display of talent, music, and art with four countries. This time, with eight nations, we aim to create an even more memorable experience for everyone," Afari stated. Encouraging fans to secure tickets for what he described as a "lifetime experience," he asserted that this year's festival would surpass the excitement of the previous edition.
In a captivating showdown, the University of Ghana will face off against Accra Technical University as part of this year's competition, promising basketball enthusiasts a world-class treat.
The festival's itinerary unfolds as follows: the first day will witness the arrival of participating countries and an opening ceremony featuring all teams. The second day is packed with thrilling games, while the final day will feature an e-sport competition, culminating in a face-off between the winner of Africa and the winner of the international games.
The 2023 Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) is brought to life by RITE Sports in collaboration with partners Beyond The Return Office and the Ghana Basketball Association. The festival guarantees an immersive experience, combining the love for basketball with the vibrancy of African culture.
