2016 Women’s League launched

The 2015/2016 National Women’s League was launched last Wednesday at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Secretariat in Accra with the introduction of a new competition called the knock- out competition, which is intended to give more playing time to the players and clubs. 

With the increase of the number of clubs from 12 to 16 and the inclusion of the knock- out competition this year, there will be eight teams in each zone and no more relegation play-offs but a straight forward relegation as well as straight championship without play-off.

Launching the league, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, the president of the GFA, pledged the association’s commitment and support to women’s football in the country, as well as to the participating clubs, to ensure a successful and competitive league.

Speaking at the launch, Madam Leanier Afiyo Addy, chairperson of the Women’s League Board called on corporate institutions to come on board to support the league and appealed to the media to help with publicity of the league.
