The experienced midfielder had trials with IK Start in Norway a month ago but failed to impress but luck smiled on him in Russia as he passed the Tambov test to be offered a deal.

The experienced holding midfielder is not new to the Russian topflight, having previously played for Kuban Krasnodar, FC Anzhi Makhachkala and Krylia Sovetov where he excelled.

He becomes only the second Ghanaian player to feature for Tambov FC, following the footsteps of his cousin Sulley Sariki Muniru who played at the Mordovia Arena.

Rabiu was part of the Ghana team which won the 2001 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt and also played for the senior national team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

He has been capped 31 times by Ghana at the senior level.
